Nyamira County is located in the former Nyanza region in the western part of Kenya.It has its capital in Nyamira town which is the largest in the county.
Nyamira was formerly part of Kisii District before the establishment of County Governments in Kenya.
Population and Administration
Nyamira County has a total population of around 605,576 people according to Kenya’s 2019 Housing and population results. Nyamira county is subdivided into four constituencies namely: Borabu Constituency, Kitutu Masaba Constituency, North Mugirango Constituency and West Mugirango Constituency.
H.E. John Obiero Nyagarama is the first and incumbent Governor of Nyamira County having won both the 2013 and 2017 Kenyan general elections.
Agriculture is the main economic activity carried out in the region with Bananas and Tea being grown as the main cash crops in the County.
Nyamira County has several educational institutions including three Public University campuses and over two hundred secondary schools.
