Taita-Taveta County

Taita Taveta is a county in the Coastal region of Kenya. The County has its government offices in Wundanyi but Mwatate was named as its capital.

History

Taita Taveta County was named from the Tata tribe who occupy the county.

Population and Administration

Taita Taveta County has a population of around 340,671 people according Kenya’s 2019 Housing and Population Census results. The County is divided into four sub counties namely: Mwatate, Taita, Taveta and Voi.

The County Government of Taita is led by H.E. Governor Granton Samboja who is the Second governor of the county.  Hon John Mruttu was the county’s first governor.

Economic Practises

Tourism is the main economic activity in the county. Tsavo West National Parks is located in the county. Other tourist destination sites in the county include the Taita Hills and Taita  Hills Forest.
